Range hood blower location

We need to get a new vent hood for our 48” Blue Star. The range is on an exterior wall and our old hood vents straight out that outside wall; for this setup I’m confused about the blower location. Is the only option a blower on the outside given such a short path to the exterior? What are the pros/cons of in line vs external blower?
